Xie Nanxing (b. 1970, Chongqing, China)

Xie Nanxing lives and works in Beijing and Chengdu, China. He has exhibited widely internationally with solo exhibitions at Petzel (2022), Galerie Urs Meile (2020, 2015, 2008); Thomas Dane Gallery (2019); Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2018); Kunstverein Hamburger Bahnhof (2005); Manchester Art Gallery (2003); and Pulitzer Gallery, Amsterdam (1998)

“To me, the process of painting is more like that of an invention. It may sound funny, but I believe they share common characteristics. A painting is like a sketch for a building. It carries many ideas and intentions of the artist. I think it’s a revolution in the simplest and most direct sense. A painting can never be produced in a factory.”
