Sean Landers
The solo exhibition Animal Kingdom by Sean Landers at Le Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris, France features some thirty portraits of animals and the natural world that are semiotic yet sensory, negotiating the tenuous relationship between image and text. Clothing his wild animals in Scottish tartan and plaid patterns, Landers extends a visual, metonymic metaphor of “to coat,” coating the figures in paint, and inscribing within them movement, shape, and new representational meanings. Featuring both selected and new works, including three animal portraits created especially for the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Lander’s paintings and sculptures will be staged amongst the museum’s collections on all floors. Curated by Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature director Christine Germain-Donnat, an 80-page full color catalogue published by LIENART with text by Frédéric Paul will also accompany the exhibition.
